Is there anything more compelling than a mom (ideally, your mom!) with an interesting car, truck or SUV? I don't think so, and most of you with moms will - hopefully - agree. With that, in partnership with Mothers High Performance Car Care, we're asking you to write about your mom and her car.
The format is simple: Supply a paragraph -- roughly 200 words -- describing 'mom,' along with a second paragraph of roughly the same length describing her car. I'm not entering, but if I was:
My mom JoAnn was roughly five feet (in height!) of total engagement, with an undying interest in family and an enduring affection for friends. From wife to mother to homemaker Jo absolutely nailed it, and even as she transitioned to assisted living she thrived on those around her.
Her transportation varied over the years -- as it will with some 60 years of driving. But the image that lingers is seeing her behind the wheel of a Suburban. At that point those five feet were probably an overestimate; if driving behind her, you'd swear autonomy had come to our Dallas-area 'burb. Purchased to tow a camping trailer, the big Chevy proved equally adept at grocery runs or collecting grandkids from school. Her last car was a CR-V, better for around town...but without the autonomy.
Entries are due by May 5th, and should be submitted via e-mail to info@motorpressguild.org. Judging will be done by your Board -- although if a Board member has a degree in literature he's automatically disqualified. One winner will be selected before Mother's Day, and that lucky winner will receive $200 in Mothers products from the mother-loving folks at Mothers/MPG. That's for the winner -- but remember: YOU CAN'T LOSE IF YOU DON'T ENTER!
