MPG presents the second installment of “Media in the News” featuring John Krafcik of TrueCar, Inc. at March luncheon

Eric Noble returns to interview John Krafcik, President of TrueCar, Inc. / photo by Myles Regan, Regan Digital Images

16383113343_c44b871379_mMarch 11, 2015 — MPG held the 2nd installment of the “Media in the News” series at the Long Beach Marriott last month, this time featuring the well-known former Hyundai Motor America CEO and current President of TrueCar, Inc.: John Krafcik. Krafcik shared candid insights on TrueCar’s business model and statistics on both the automotive consumer market and TrueCar’s rapidly increasing presence in the consumer landscape. Interviewed by Eric Noble, MPG member and President of the automotive consulting firm, The CarLab, the discussion was an engaging and intimate one.

A first for MPG, this time MPG members Mark Perleberg and DiAnne Spain of TakeTwoTV were on-site to provide a live streaming webcast of the exclusive interview. As one of the goals of the “Media in the News” series was to break insider industry-specific content to the web, MPG was thrilled to make our live streaming goal a reality at this event. We extend sincere thanks to Mark and DiAnne for the service. We would love to get feedback from our members that watched if the experience was valuable to you and how we could improve. We’d also like to know if our members are interested more live feeds of our events in the future. Please take a moment to answer this one question member poll:

We hope you enjoyed the second installment of “Media in the News,” whether you joined us in Long Beach or caught our live webcast. boardmember-JasonFogelsonI don’t have to tell you that it’s spring – as I sit out in my North Hollywood back yard writing this letter, the temperature is 85 degrees. Southern California is not without its charms.

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Long Beach Marriott this month for our Media in the News Luncheon with TrueCar’s John Krafcik being interviewed by member Eric Noble. We had great attendance, augmented by a good number of viewers at home via a live video feed, thanks to Mark Perleberg and Take Two TV. We’re going to continue to experiment with the live feed, and hopefully add downloadable recordings of our luncheon events in the near future – maybe as soon as our next luncheon.

Speaking of which, we’re all looking forward to our next luncheon, back at the Proud Bird this time, when Toyota is going to discuss their hydrogen fuel cell program with us. They’re even bringing a Mirai out for us to walk around and explore with a product specialist. Thanks to former MPG Board Member Mike Antich for facilitating this event.

An update on the progress of our new website: Our vendor has commenced work on the eight-week project, and if everything goes according to schedule, we’ll be into live testing before summer time kicks in. This is a total redesign, down to the very bones of the system, hosting and software. We’re aware that there have been some glitches with correspondence and notifications from the old system. This overhaul should take care of all that. It won’t all be smooth roads ahead, but we’re very optimistic. We’re committed to a site that is mobile-friendly across platforms, so you’ll be able to access information on MotorPressGuild.org from all of your devices.

Our next big driving event is on the horizon, and that’s Droptops and Dirt. We’ve set a date at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu: Wednesday, May 27. Mark your calendars. More information to follow.

Finally, a call to action.

In an effort to raise MPG’s visibility, I’d like to ask each member who uses a signature in their email correspondence to add a line that says “Member, Motor Press Guild” with a clickable link to https://www.motorpressguild.org. If you’re feeling really proud of your status as a member, you can even download this clickable MPG logo and add it to your automatic signature:

mpg-sigRight-click the logo to save to your computer.
If you need help on adding an image to your email signature, click here for a helpful article. (Substitute the MPG logo for the social media icon when mentioned and use www.motorpressguild.org for the link.)

If we all do this, we’ll be raising awareness of MPG in a subtle fashion – which will be good for the organization, and good for each member in return.

That’s it for this month. Drive safely, and I’ll see you at the Proud Bird.
