This Week: Denise McCluggage Memorial at the Shelby Museum

Denise McCluggage

Join in a celebration of the life of
our friend and colleague, Denise McCluggage
at the Shelby Museum

Thursday, July 9 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm

MPG members Mark Vaughn and Matt DeLorenzo have organized a celebration of the life of our friend and colleague Denise McCluggage. If you knew Denise and have a story or two about her, this is your chance to stand up and tell it. If you didn’t know her, come and hear why it is we all hold her in such high regard. To keep it simple, it will be just a gathering of her friends, no lunch or open bar. We suggest you have lunch beforehand – gather together with some colleagues and prepare your Denise stories. Everybody has one.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

boardmember-JasonFogelson

Hope you’re all enjoying your summer. It’s definitely my favorite time of the year, with more daylight hours to drive, ride and explore. I’m trying to make the most of it, and I’m sure you are, too.

Your Board of Directors has been spending time planning and strategizing for the fall and winter. We’ve got some big innovations in the works, and we’re doing the important groundwork that will bring our efforts to life. We’ll be revealing news here and in other direct communications soon, so keep an eye open. Expect innovations for Track Days, the Motor Press Guild Awards and the MPG Invitational, all in response to member feedback.

We’ve been promising the launch of the new and improved MotorPressGuild.org website, and it is on deck right now, just about to go into the beta testing phase of development. The new site is modern, sleek and flexible, with improved functionality and responsiveness. It will do everything that the old site did, and more. The new software engine that underlies the website is much easier and more intuitive for both members and administrators to use, and, maybe best of all, much much less expensive for us to license and operate. Once testing is complete, the new website will simply take the place of the old one at the familiar web address, MotorPressGuild.com. We’re hoping that the seamless transition will take place in the next few weeks.

I’d like to repeat my early reminder to all members about the Motor Press Guild Awards. Nominations won’t be open until early fall, but it’s never too early to take note of examples of excellence in automotive journalism. Works that were first published or released between September 1, 2014 and August 31, 2015 are eligible for awards this year. Search your memory banks, and be sure to watch for the opening of nominations so that no great works slip though our grasp. You can email me at Jason@MotorPressGuild.org if you want to discuss a potential entry or the Motor Press Guild Awards process in general.

Stay safe, and I’ll see you out on the road.

— Jason Fogelson
