New Year, New MPG!

January began a new year, and things are certainly new for the MPG. In addition to our newly elected Board of Directors, we are gearing up to bring you the best year yet of networking opportunities, events and ways to get even more out of your MPG membership.

Since we didn’t have a January meeting to recap in this issue of MilePost, we thought you’d enjoy this Infographic snapshot created from the responses we got to last year’s MPG Member Survey. This gives you an idea of the current MPG membership based on who we are, why we joined and what branch of media we cover.

If the infographic does not automatically load in your browser, please click here to view it.

This year, we are taking our goal to “further the professionalism of automotive journalism” seriously and look forward to what’s ahead.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hi everyone!

It happened without much fanfare, but I recently accepted the role of President of the Motor Press Guild for 2014. The election was held at the yearly meeting on January 6, where three new board members, Shad Balch, Chris Woodyard and Michael Harley were sworn in and John Clinard, Aaron Gold and Chris Martin were released from duty after their three-year terms came to an end.

Remaining on BOD duty are Jason Fogelson, Jeff Glucker, Deb Pollack, Doug Stokes, Mike Antich, Darryll Harrison and Brendan Flynn. Larry Rusznak remains on as our Business Operations Manager, Pete Evanow continues his job as Media Guide Manager and we are happy to announce the hiring of Carrie Kim as our new Manager of Web/Communications, since Brad Nelson took a Public Relations position at American Honda Motor Corporation.

Other MPG officer positions were filled as well. Jason Fogelson is now Vice President, Jeff Glucker remains in his duties as Secretary and Darryll Harrison continues as Treasurer. Committee chairpersons are still under review, but will be announced shortly.

Although it might seem that the MPG has taken a long winter’s nap, much work is being accomplished behind the scenes to plan for our 2014 year. We took a deep dive into the survey results from last year, which prompted us to rethink our goals and objectives for the coming year. That strategic work is being done now in preparation for our networking event on the evening of February 18th in the garage of Source Interlink in El Segundo.

There, we will share some key insights from the survey and announce changes to our yearly schedule that will hopefully keep us more in line with what our membership wants. If you did not fill out the survey last year, please feel free to send your input or questions to us at info@motorpressguild.org and we promise to keep it in mind going forward.

We look forward to seeing old friends and new in El Segundo and at future events this year as we strive to fulfill our mandate to “further the professionalism of automotive journalism.

All the Best,
— Joni Gray
