Media will be the first people allowed to see the completed Petersen Automotive Museum at a special preview on December 3. The freshly completed museum will be open before sunrise to accommodate broadcast news.
Completely new inside and out, the building boasts radical architecture and nearly 100,000 square feet of interior exhibit space on three floors. The 25 galleries are completely new and will feature possibly the largest collection of significant vehicles ever assembled under one roof. Included are iconic race-winners, famous Hollywood cars, significant motorcycles, exotic concours winners and even art cars. Tours of the subterranean vault will also be offered.
Mid-day presentations are being finalized. Scheduled speakers include Pixar’s Cars franchise head Jay Ward, architect A. Eugene Kohn, Petersen Executive Director Terry Karges, and former Fiat Group Chief of Design/former Pininfarina CEO Lorenzo Ramaciotti. The Drago restaurant group will provide lunch and a taste of the dishes that will be served in the museum’s restaurant. Competition in the museum’s new Microsoft Forza simulator room is also in the works, as is an afternoon networking mixer.
