A longtime MPG member from Canada, Kellen Silverthorn has an artistic talent you may not know about – he sculpts exquisite marble automobiles. Kellen’s first fine art exhibits in the USA will be in Monterey this August, at both the Quail Gathering and Concorso Italiano.
In Monterey, 12 sculptures will be on display. A virtual kaleidoscope of marble colors and patterns were employed to showcase the planet’s available stone palate…..yellow, red, orange, pink, lilac, magenta, gold, green (3 shades), as well as the expected white, black, and grey. The 12 range from 22-32 inches in length and weigh 40-65 pounds — not heavy enough to crush your desk, but big enough for a commanding presence.
Seven of the sculptures exhibited are a series of national representatives from the top street car building countries: Corvette Split Window (USA), Aston Martin One77 (UK), Bugatti Veyron (FR), Mercedes 300 SLR Coupe (GER), Lamborghini Muira (ITALY), Koenigsegg Regera (SWE), and Toyota 2000 GT (JAPAN). The other five sculptures depict iconic race cars: Porsche 917 LH and 904, Ferrari 330 P4 and FXX, and the super-sized 32”Auto Union Stromlinie.
Each marble sculpture represents countless hours of intricate hand finishing, and painstaking inlays, interwoven with the latest in computer-aided-milling robotics. Prices start in the low five figures. Each masterpiece is one-of-a-kind. So, when the “Just4P4” piece — the Rosso Laguna (red) 1967 LeMans-competing Ferrari 330 P4– is sold, there won’t be another in this combination created. Silverthorn can sculpt any car, in any marble, so what self-indulgence would you commission?
Journalist colleagues at MPG should recognize this Monterey opportunity for a compelling story line with rich-and-ready visuals and industry colleagues at MPG should seize any opportunity to have one of these magnificent sculptures in their corner office, conference room, as a worthy retirement gift, or as a coveted monthly performance recognition placeholder.
Sculpture is a visceral experience, and always best viewed in person, so be sure to meet Kellen and experience his sculptures Friday, August 19th at the Quail Gathering, and Saturday, August 20th at Concorso Italiano. Otherwise, visit www.kellensilverthornsculptures.com or call 250-505-3180 (PST).
