JOIN MPG
    MPG membership is open to active journalists, editors, photographers, illustrators, broadcasters, producers, public relations practitioners, students, and other professionals working in the greater automotive industry.

    Become a member so you can drive at Track Day, participate in the Dean Batchelor Award banquet at member rates, attend power trips, be included in the annual Membership Roster & Media Guide, be listed in the online member directory, have access to all the members-only pages on this site, and more.

    An application is required, along with THREE PIECES OF documentation of activity within the last 12 months (examples: bylined published work, press releases, photos, or video/audio tapes of broadcast material, or other appropriate evidence). INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED. You must also have two Sponsoring Members recommending you for membership.     Dues
    Annual Dues for Full-Journalist, Full-PR, and Affiliate: $70 per year. Student dues: $30 per year.
    Members may renew or apply at any time during the year, but all memberships are active until December 31. Memberships may be renewed beginning November 1 for the following year.

    You may renew your membership for 2010 at any time.
    All renewals will be valid through Dec 31, 2010. If you forgot to renew by Dec. 31, 2009, you have been placed in an "inactive" file and will not have access to the MEMBERS portion of the site until you do renew. 

    Failure to renew dues in a timely manner will result in a member's name being struck from the membership rolls; you may rejoin at any time, but only after submitting a new application and the necessary documentation of recent professional activity.


    Deadlines
    The deadline for members to renew and be included in the 2010 Membership Roster & Media Guide is January 31, 2010. New members must have their applications approved by Jan 31 in order to be included in that year's Membership Roster & Media Guide. Renewing members must have completed their renewal by the same date, Jan 31. You may join or renew at any time during the year, but to be included in the Roster, you must have completed the process by this date as set by the Board.

    The deadline to be approved as a full journalist member in order to participate in Track Day is August 30. 


    Member Classifications and Qualifications
    There are four membership classifications in MPG: Full-Journalist, Full-Public Relations, Affiliate and Student

    • To qualify for Full-Journalist, you must be a working journalist who covers the automotive industry or related fields such as motorsports, the aftermarket or the OEM supplier market, etc.
    • Full-Public Relations members must perform PR within the automobile industry which is considered to include the aftermarket, motorsports, OEM suppliers, and other related businesses.
    • Affiliate membership is open to appropriate professionals who work in the automotive industry, but do not meet the requirements of Full-Journalist or Full-Public Relations. Examples would be engineers, designers, marketing personnel and advertising personnel, etc. At the discretion of the Membership Committee, individuals in the automotive advertising field who have substantial contact with the working automotive press may be deemed eligible for Full-Public Relations membership
    • Student membership is open to any person enrolled in an accredited college or university in a field of academic study allied with the communications or automotive industries. Such fields of study may include journalism, public relations, photography, communications, engineering, design, and marketing. Proof of enrollment is required.

    Full-Journalist and Full-Public Relations members are eligible to vote and hold office in MPG. Affiliate and Student members may participate in all MPG activities and committees, but may not vote or hold elective office.
